We have such expectations and demands on our body and it’s movement, whilst generally (exclusions may apply) not giving a second thought about how it does it and how each area is fairing. Until something goes wrong…
I don’t know about you but even using my mobile phone seems to be having a negative effect on my body, shoulders crouched, my hands complaining, throwing out random pains and aches (probably RSI) that I am trying to ignore, whilst consciously aware that I’m spending way too much time on my phone, but apparently helpless to desist ( that’s a whole other blog subject😁).
Another sideline…but isn’t it fascinating how we have developed the skill of being able to identify if someone is using their phone (not making a call) in literally the shortest of glances!? That stance, the concentration on their personal pandora’s box, whilst distractedly incorporating everyday activities…🙈
Ok, so back on subject…I suppose what I’m saying is that with us living life in the ‘fast lane environment’ which not only means work space but also how we have grown accustomed to having access to everything…like yesterday 😬, with the next item on lifes agenda storming into focus before the present one has truly been digested means that we may not be truly present in the moment, aware of our surroundings and most importantly (well for this blog anyway) how our body feels.
Now I’m not suggesting that we drop everything and begin a full in-depth body examination! However, a reflective moment of awareness and perhaps appreciation of where your body is at, can have multiple benefits, not least in bringing you back into the present moment, with just a singular focus of you.
If this is only managed once a day, heck even once a week initially to start with can provide you with a perfect start to the day especially if your able to incorporate it into your morning routine. As my alarm rudely wakes me up of a morning, I take a moment to hone in from the top of my head to my toes, just being aware of how each part of my body feels and being grateful that they are ready (or not so ready) for the day ahead. I will also use that time to take some really deep breaths.
Now, that does feel good! Autopilot switched off for a moment and really enjoy filling your lungs with air and blowing it out through your mouth really calms the mind. Easy, free and accessible, that’s the beauty it, and yes, it’s not going to change the world but it will change a little corner of it. Giving you a chance to stop and think..yep, everything’s in order!😁
